Lovelyz - Destiny (A New Trilogy)

YESSSSS my princesses Lovelyz have made their comeback!! This gross fangirl is very happy with it *u* They've grown so much since Candy Jelly Love but I love that they still have a distinct sound. It's rich, intricate, soothing, a bit retro, melodic, feminine, and innocent/cute without being obnoxious. And what really makes their music unique is that there's always some melancholic undertone or twist that adds depth behind the seemingly sweet songs. Not to mention digipedi who's been behind all of their MVs expertly reflects all of this in their visuals for an amazing Lovelyz brand of aesthetic.

But this time with Destiny (My Earth) they've really embraced melancholic—and it's pretty reminiscent of their "big brother group" Infinite's sound but more of a feminine take of it. And that's awesome aaaaa

Also loving the extended metaphor ;u; The lyrics are basically: Why do you circle around her (the sun) when I revolve around you like the moon? You're my earth and the gravity that pulls me. I wish I could stand between you and her, and give you a ring of light. (INSERT GRAPHICS OF SOLAR ECLIPSE)

01. Moonrise - 00:00
02. Destiny (My Earth) - 00:41
03. Splash - 04:15
04. Bookmark - 07:46
05. 1cm - 11:18
06. Take Care of My Heart - 15:01
07. Doll - 18:57

I haven't yet listened to the rest of the album (A New Trilogy) enough to really know it, but I like it so far! Some parts feel bland but I'll see how my feelings change when lyric translations are out.
Some fans have said that there's kind of a Clamp vibe? Lovelyz' sound has always leaned more J-pop than K-pop, but AS THE HUGE CLAMP FAN I AM, this delights the fuck out of me!!! I think I do hear it at times!

For me, the album standouts include Bookmark (07:46) for those who like sentimental ballads and drama OSTs, and Babysoul does a soft rap in it! It's like the second coming of Circle, which is a great song ^^ and coincidentally has a lot of meaning overlaps with Destiny.

1cm (11:18) isn't one of my favorites so far but I like the quirky retro video game-sounding synths. Kind of like the Ah-Choo intro. And this one kind of makes me think of Cardcaptor Sakura by Clamp which is a win to me..!

Take Care of My Heart (15:01) is growing on me a lot. The verses are undeniably Lovelyz style, and then the chorus is catchy and uplifting!

AND WE CAN'T NOT TALK ABOUT Doll (18:57)—the song behind Lovelyz' ethereal, film aesthetic, somewhat eerie Prologue Film with lyrics like "I can't fall sleep yet you dream peacefully without me. I'm your doll in the corner of the room, quietly waiting for you." But I feel like without the mysterious-looking video, the eerie effect has mostly dissipated and now it just feels like a heartbroken fairytale lullaby song, and FUCK YEAH I HELLA DIG THAT. It sounds so soothing!

Hmmmm I don't think I'm going to try to cover any of these songs like I did with For You unfortunately ahah. No time to work on a solo, and none of them are screaming at me to sing them. xD But I will enjoy listening~ Can't wait for the second and third legs of Lovelyz' new trilogy. ^^

Probably mostly an adult

Man, I can't believe this long, long, emotional week is over. ;A; It's been so busy—I worked past 8:30 PM on three days because I'm handling a big project as main editor for the first time. I've been drained in several ways, lacking sleep, stressed out, and I guess it totally showed.... Three times I was asked in the past two weeks if I was sick, because I look like such a tired mess OTL

The hardest day was Friday though.
I had to finally tell my boss that I'm going to quit the part time accounting job I've been working at for almost 5 years. ;;;;

Although it went well and my boss is happy for me—bless her heart—it took a lot struggling not to let the tears fall out of my eyes during that difficult, sentimental, hopeful, sad conversation. Fuck. I've been crying a lot haha ^^;;; It's not simply a workplace. I've got emotional attachments to the people, my friends, the environment, the memories..... The past 5 years have been so pivotal in my growth as a person; the current me that I know has always attended this accounting job and has always been surrounded by these people. I don't know how to accept this much change yet. ;_; When I started working there, I was the company's first intern and my dad brought me in because my parents wanted me to try working instead of sitting at home. I was merely an 18 year old child that graduated high school with no direction in life, no responsibilities, no social skills, no belief that I could have any talent that mattered, no desire to ever grow up or change.

My last week at this job will be the week of my birthday—I'm going to turn 23.
And I'm going to start working full time at my currently part time video production job. ;^; There'll be a lot of good opportunities. I even go on business trips! Now I'm getting big projects to edit too! Considering how many film majors like me are freelancing or struggling to earn steady income, I'm pretty damn lucky. I should probably treat my professor who referred me to this job to a meal. xD He gave me such an incredible kickstart to what seems like it will become a career for me in video production. Weird. Now I don't even have a knee-jerk reaction to thinking that I'm probably mostly an adult with an actual meaningful future. Weeeiiird.

Tomorrow I have to do something very hard. I feel like my heart is breaking ;; I've already shed a lot of tears but I hope I have more courage tomorrow. For years I've imagined this and for weeks I've dreaded it; I can't believe it's already here. Fighting.....

[Review] Secret Key Haul First Impressions

YOOOOO I haven't done a post like this in a long time! Because I'm a sucker for anything related to Lovelyz, I went and ordered a mini haul from skincare/make-up brand Secret Key—which has blessed us with one of Lovelyz' first commercials, below. FUCK YEAH I'M SO HAPPY FOR THEM ;U;

These are the things I ordered!

Honestly I only really wanted the lip tint because I'm a sucker for pretty lip products, but HEY MAN, FREE SHIPPING OVER $49 hahahahahaha..ha.. It turned out fine since I'll need a toner replacement soon, and my liquid eyeliners and mascara have long dried up .... :'D
ALSO some really nice deals happening on Secret Key!! All in all, I only paid $41.23 for a $75.43 value order. And still got free shipping! The Lovelyz coupon gave me 20% off, but the current one is "10% off + 10% mileage plus" until April 17th.

Not to mention the lip tints and eyeliner were part of an amazing 1 + 1 deal, which is still going!
Actually, I'm missing the brown eyeliner that I ordered so I'll see how customer service handles that.

But I ain't even mad because WOW I didn't expect all of these extra free gifts?!

  • Nature Recipe Mask Pack - Aloe
  • Chubby Sweets Lip Scrub
  • UV CUT High Protection Sun Cream
  • 24K Gold Premium First Essence x 2

Is someone in trouble for packing my order wrong or is Secret Key just insanely generous? The sun cream and lip scrub aren't even sample size!! Maybe it's because they know I'm a lovelinus. ^^

Straight up, the most interesting things I got in this package were:
1) the SYN-AKE toner which is supposedly synthetic snake venom which supposedly reduces wrinkles, and
2) the free 24K essence which seems to... actually have little gold flakes floating in it..... Has gold always been good for the skin, or is this just a really expensive gimmick?

I'll be doing a first impression review on the lip tint and eye liner under the cut. :> Warning: I don't know shit about make-up and there are many waaaay-too-close-up pictures of my face.

Still ranting.

It's been a while since I felt so propelled to write a post like this. In fact, what I'm about to say is essentially the exact same thing I felt and wrote two years ago; and the same shit happens and it still bothers me down to the moral level.

"(says mean things about other people in public twitter space)
(mocks them and encourages friends to do the same)
Oh I don't know why people think this community has negative drama.
They should just deal with it."

HOW IS THIS OKAY?
Why are we pushing the notion that bullying is normal and that the attacked just need to learn to "deal with it?"

Why is anyone encouraging cyberbullying at all?
How are we still disregarding that the people that are being mocked in public—some of whom even are having their names exposed—are real people with feelings, that will probably get hurt because they're our peers who can see the destructive things you write on your public space!

I'm sorry, but this isn't something to be proud of and to boast about to earn yourself the attention of fellow bullies. This isn't something that others should be admiring—what a shame when you can choose role models that don't take pride in harming others.

Is it not a telltale sign when people are constantly "leaving" because of negativity or creating attempts to battle or avoid it.. that we ought to try to spread less negativity? How about we grab the opportunity when seeing these attempts to instead improve ourselves?

Holdin' [a one-sided conversation with] Horses

SAAAADDDDDDDDDD.
I was really excited about getting this picture so that I could boast about the fact that I interviewed a horse! I was gonna make all the cringeworthy puns about how Willow refused to answer my questions but that's just the neeeeighture of interviewing a horse.

And then I saw the picture later.... without my sunglasses on....... o<-<
My sunglasses had obscured my vision to the point that when I was taking the picture, I couldn't tell that.. there was a weird effect on?? or the lens was dirty????? I DON'T EVEN HAVE AN EXPLANATION FOR THIS ATROCITY. (Edit: It's a lens flare lol i don't use smartphones enough)

Now I'm sad but I'll still post it here because my blog is forgiving right ;^; euehuehuehue

A week ago, I was out on a ranch for two days for a video shoot for work! It was interesting and I had some fun, but holy fucking horse poop I was tired af and I swear my body is still sore from it. Woke up at 6 AM because it was an hour and 20 min drive away, was outside all day both days, stood for many long hours, worked out my arms for the first time in a while holding up a boom pole, also helped with carrying and setting things up, and didn't get home til 8 PM.. Long ass days......

Since I don't have a smartphone and apparently my GPS broke, my dad lent me his work iPhone and that's why I got to take so many pictures and selfies XDDDDD I had to take advantage of the opportunity! I was holding a selfie machine!!

The ranch was part of a public park with a petting zoo so I .. talked at some goats too.... They were too fast for me to pet tho.
(Okay but I wasn't completely lying about interviewing that horse because I really did spend a while trying to get some recordings of her neighing and general horse sounds ahah. She was a sweet horse though~ So I actually couldn't get much audio from her..)

We were filming a blacksmith making horseshoes :> Pretty fascinating how it comes together. I hope the video gets finished soon because it'd be nice to share! There are some EXTREEEEME slow motion shots (1000 frames a second apparently OMG?) with sparks flying that look like particles, and they're real pretty!

Afterwards, the blacksmith ...burned and nailed..... the horseshoes onto a horse and that was horrific to watch QAQ I can't believe my coworker made an overly punny macro out of this terribly unflattering picture lmao..

At the end, I got to ride briefly in a horse carriage (the excuse was that I needed audio from as close to the carriage as possible hehehe) and that was probably the most fun part haha.

I feel like maybe because speaking up or even talking to people at all is something I have to muster courage to do, something I was afraid to do because I often regretted the times I opened my mouth, and a capability I gained after years of improving my social skills and opening up.... I really hate to be ignored. :/ It's deflating after how much it took to become relatively comfortable with people and myself.

Late night rambling #12

Help, it's 3 AM and I wish I didn't have to sleep. I had the thought while brushing my teeth that I've been becoming more and more similar to the kinds of people that I used to not get along with.. In fact, I found them a little scary and/or annoying--probably out of envy tbh because I was an awkward dumb shit. :< It's not necessarily a bad thing I think, but it almost makes me feel like...I've betrayed myself or something LOL.....
I don't want to be an insincere person, but I wonder if trying too hard to be sincere makes me insincere? Is it insincere to sometimes wear a mask of positivity, when it stems from sincere intentions of wanting to be a more positive person? Kind of an interesting and incomplete thought that I should probably expand on WHEN I'M NOT LATE NIGHT SHIT RAMBLING like a drunk person. I swear tired Eva is more like a drunk than inebriated Eva. Inebriated Eva is coherent and doesn't type shit to her blog on her ipad while in bed. I watched a show where a character used the word shit like 12 times in 2 sentences so I feel better about how many times I've repeated it in this post. Holy cats I'm going to hate waking up tomorrow morning so much. Did you know it was apparently national puppy day? Have I ever mentioned dogs are my favorite animal. The more ya know.
Forget that this post exists when tomorrow comes please.

Probably not very long ago, I was afraid of talking to service workers—not sure if the fear applied specifically to them, or if it was because the only situations that forced me to talk to strangers involved them. I remember often being purposely silent so that Chiisana would take charge of putting our orders in to the waiter/waitress, because I just really couldn't talk to them. During the road trip of what I believe to be my second AX, I cried at an In-N-Out because they forgot my order and I was overwhelmed by stress in between.. being too scared to talk to the workers lol.... and feeling bad because my friends were all already finishing up their food. It was pretty fucking bad. So I'm pretty proud when I'm able to take some steps forward, like when I had volunteered for the film festival which forced me to talk to hundreds of strangers and I was anxious af but did great!

Now I think I generaaallyyy interact with strangers pretty effortlessly and well, which is awesome ;^;)9 (and also very necessary because now I meet new people on video shoots and business trips and even went to a freelancers meet-up... I just wish I had this skill when I was in school and then I would've maybe made friends better.)

One of my goals lately has been to take it a step further and try to say nice things to strangers—and especially to service workers because their jobs are tough and customers can be horrible (not that I can relate since I went straight to desk jobs but that's more reason for me to at least be an appreciative customer).
Too many times I regret not saying anything, when—I'm realizing now—I don't have much to lose? Sometimes a few kind words go a long way. Sometimes people feel better about what they're doing knowing that others are grateful for it. Sometimes validations might help a girl overcome some insecurities, so might as well compliment them.

I think I'm doing rather decently at this goal so far. But the best is when you feel like aaaaa you were able to make someone's day SERIOUSLY THIS MAKES EVERYTHING SO WORTH IT.

It's spring break for the college kids so I've been seeing Chiisana and friends a lot~ A few hours ago, she and I went to a milk tea/dessert place and it was packed even for a Wednesday night. I might be wrong since it was so crowded, but I only noticed one guy manning the storefront. As far as I could tell, he acted as waiter and busboy for all the tables.. He was super nice, smiling in between the franticness and telling us several times, "Thank you for being so patient!" And he seemed like a genuinely hard worker that actually cared about customers! Even though he was running around everywhere taking orders and cleaning up tables—and obviously kind of stressed out?—he still made sure to check up on how customers were doing. I feel like I'm really spoiled because I can't imagine doing that kind of job and how overwhelmed I would be.....

Anyway, we left him a big tip, which I handed to him with a bright smile and, "This is for you! Thank you so much for working so hard!" AND HE BROKE OUT INTO THIS SHOCKED TURNED RELIEVED SMILE and it felt like his tensed up body momentarily melted into goo. ;U; Seriously such an awesome moment!!! Until we left, he thanked us a handful of times with a great big smile.

I don't know if this is selfish to think? LOL I hope we made his night better.. I think we did at least a little! And I'm so happy with myself that I'm able to do this now. QUQ)9
Everything about this just makes me rly happy HAHAHAHA I'm so proud!!

But now this combination of being gleeful and having had milk tea at night makes me not want to go to bed even though it's 2 AM and I have work in the morning lol I'm gonna hate everything tomorrow man daytime is miserable

This is a no-point update post I just felt like writing at 1:27 AM. :D This is my life yay.

So somehow I got sick (LOOK, I HAD NO IDEA MY PARENTS WERE SICK because I've been so busy and then I guess I caught it from them?!) so I've been coughing like a bitch all week. That aside, it's still been a challenging, tiring week omg. @_@

On Monday, I had my accounting job and it was month end which means extra crap ton of work that needs to be finished to close the period. What woke me up early that morning was the unexpected BURNING RAGING HELL happening in my throat?! It was painful to swallow to the point that I almost wished to be put out of my misery??! Lucky me it was early enough that I could take death medicine and sleep a couple more hours, because I had to go to work lol..

On Tuesday, I had to go up to San Francisco—which is an hour away without traffic, only there's ALWAYS horrible traffic omg—because accounting job sorta-last-minute asked me to attend a tradeshow and shoot some videos and pictures lol... I guess..if they think I'm qualified for that.... It was less painful than expected, but I was walking and standing for hours and with a cold so I was dead :D..... And I carpooled with a coworker so got home pretty late...

Aaaaaand had to get to work by 8:30 AM the next day because video production job was suddenly strapped to a ticking bomb called ULTRA LAST MINUTE VIDEO SHOOT and could only gather a crew the evening before. Yay. Mornings. And assholes. My favorite things. So I did the audio recording on that shoot, and afterwards did the finishing touches on the demo reel that they asked me to put together to be shown that night. And then ANOTHER TRIP BACK UP TO SF IN HORRIBLE TRAFFIC LOLOL I usually never going to SF wow. Video production company was hosting their 3rd Bay Area media freelancers meet-up for folks to mingle and network—the first one I was attending—so another assistant (her first day on the job! they believe in trial by fire) and I went early to set up. They decided to get Chinese food and I had this somewhat traumatizing experience going by myself to find a restaurant and order the food and struggling to communicate in my broken Chinese and I'm traumatized.. >A> In any case, everyone seemed to really like the demo reel I edited so yay ///u///!! I'm so proud. I was so embarrassed amgah!! We had to clean up afterwards and drive all the way back down so I didn't get home til midnight. :( Long ass day was long. Now I'm coughing and sneezing like a bitch yay.

On Thursday, I had the hardest freakin time getting out of bed omg... To make everything worse, the day started out with my first performance review at video production job, and I can think of a billion things they could criticize me with. ;;; But they didn't and it went well! Like, SUPER well!!! Wtf. Then we had to go back to redo some shots from the previous day's shoot because assholes are assholes who don't care about others or their schedules or lives and think that they can just say, "btw we're gonna redo some things tomorrow" and think everyone will willingly accommodate and happily put all their own things aside..... Asshole.

THIS IS THE BEST PART.
I went home after that shoot, took cold medicine, and got in bed at 5 PM......

and woke up at 1 AM..... wondered if I should get up and/or eat dinner or, iunno, shower.....
instead knocked out again.....

then woke up at 6 AM..... got up and ate "dinner," took more medicine, went back to sleep...
and then got up and went to work. XD
I SLEPT FOR ALMOST 16 HOURS !!!!

Work today at accounting job was fine other than "btw HQ is already asking if there's a video done from the tradeshow" (which is... my job I guess even though nobody really really asked me to edit such a video but welp and also holy shit hold your horses c'mon the tradeshow ended yesterday pls).
No, I don't feel like I just slept for 16 hours, and yes, I'm still coughing like a bitch.

Such was my week. :D I don't feel like sleeping tho. It's probably because I slept for forever yesterday hehehehhee.

My cover of "First Love (첫번째 사랑을 시작해요)" by Kim Sohyun (김소현) for the k-drama The Suspicious Housekeeper OST!

I recorded it pretty much as soon as the song came out in November 2013 LOL...... And then it fell to the bottom of my priority list and never got completed so I finally fished it out of nowheresville, threw reverb all over it, and hoisted it to the light of the internet!!!

Kim Sohyun is SO GIRLCRUSH, LIKE.
She was my favorite child actress (maybe even favorite actress overall) when she was 13, and now she's already 16 and beautiful and talented and perf. *__*

Food for Thought: To Be Special Without Specialty

Osuu~ ;u; The other day I was reading some old blog posts from 2-3 years ago, and it impelled in me some desire to blog but I'm not sure yet what I'm writing hmm THIS COULD BE A MESS. I think I've been realizing some things lately after spending more time in the scary "adult world" that I kind of wish I knew back then?

In October, we had a "creative meeting" at my video production job and one of my coworkers shared an excerpt from a book in which someone's giving a keynote about her success in her real estate work. The person talked about how she once wasn't doing very well even though she always followed the rules, treated business formally, and basically followed the script she was taught for what to say to clients. She was going to give up and decided to yolo her last job—was a lot more informal, more herself, got along well with her client, and didn't follow any script, and then she made an unexpected sale on the house. Her lesson was that anybody can follow a script or do a passable job. But to be a good salesperson, what you need to "sell" is yourself. What you bring to the table to any job is you—your character—what's unique about you and your experiences. No matter the job or product, people will want to work with you for you.

In October, I'm not sure if I believed it then.
I think now I do?

I've a stressful complex over the fact that I don't think I have any special skills. ;n; I don't regret choosing to be a Radio-TV-Film major but I don't feel like I learned all that much from school that TONS of hobbyists learn on their own or can learn online? I guess I studied video and audio production and I do it for a job, but I don't think I'm nearly as good as the kids that just do it for fun online. It's easy to see especially in this online singing community where I'm surrounded by people who make beautiful awesome videos or whose mixes sound like professionals' and I'm just like, omg I have nothing to show?? My aesthetic sense is crap??? My audio work is ok but not great?? Dude I've had way too many breakdowns over this LOLLL.
"Is there a place for somebody who is just "not bad" in a world that requires only the best? Can you survive as a jack of all trades but master of none when being the best requires specialty?
CAN I EVEN GET A JOB. WILL ANYONE EVEN TAKE ME FOR AN INTERNSHIP."

Mmmh not too much has changed and I still don't think I have special skills, but I think I'm learning that that doesn't mean I'm not special?

Last year I got the first and only internship that I interviewed for, which—YAY I worried for nothing—and I remember another intern was gossiping to me about our classmate who had also interviewed but wasn't accepted. Apparently our supervisor told her that she didn't choose that classmate not necessarily because of his skills, but because he didn't have the personal qualities she was looking for. The internship was for a community media center/cable TV studio and interns would be working with community members and/or sometimes filming outside events. She was looking for interns that seemed like warm, welcoming, smart people that could interact well with the community, since they'd be the frontrunners of the community center.
Back then I didn't think much of it more than "HAH SUX 4 HIM" but now this is totally relevant to my recent revelations!!!

My coworker at my video production job told me the other day about a client who came to us asking for a video but had a small budget and tight deadline, so we had to say no. Later on, the same client came back to us all, "Ayyy I was able to get more money and more time PLS LETS MAKE VIDEO~~" (in more professional terms) so apparently some people will even come up with a bigger budget just to be able to work with our company OAO! Which I think makes sense because really my coworkers are incredibly wonderful, fun, yet professional people! They got so much good feedback from the last business trip we went on and well deserved ;U; We're being invited back next year to do more stuff, and the team that one coworker was leading was like, "We'll come back as long as we're working with ___ again! He's pleasant but he gets things done," which is awwwasdfllksfd ;u; It's pretty inspirational working alongside them.

This will sound rly weird and conceited but I'm just gonna be totally honest LOL but my bosses really like me?! and I never understood why and couldn't fully believe in it either because tbh I do quite a variety of things for them—production assistant on shoots and trips, audio recording on shoots, video editing, audio editing, admin work like managing our contractor database, office work like filing papers, and even accounting in Quickbooks—but I'm not particularly good at any of these things except maybe the basic bitch admin/officey things. I feel like sometimes I mess up. I have regrets and lots of moments I still feel embarrassed about. I don't think I'm truly qualified to do audio on shoots because I'm always so clueless and I feel terrible towards everyone else on set. Compared to professionals, I'm slow at editing and my eye for aesthetics is just... fuck life o<-< I'm lacking a ton ugh and it too often stresses me out. Honestly sometimes I feel useless and I'm scared I'm letting people down. But a kind person always tells me, "So what if some people are more skilled than you? They can't do exactly what you do as well as you can. There's more to the job than just what they can do, and you're a professional in a professional environment." I don't always listen LOL! I suck. Now I'm trying to see from that perspective. I'm not that talented and yet I still got a job (well, 2 jobs) and they like me enough to want me to increase my hours? ;U;

So I'm realizing that, yeah. More things matter than just pure skills.
Things like being willing to step up to any challenge. Being able to adapt. Communicating well with others. Being open to learning new things. Trying and not giving up unless that's the smarter option. Attention to detail and being organized. Following directions when needed. Being able to make a good impression when you'll be representing the company. Being observant and having a good sense of others' needs. Being supportive and a team player. Recognizing good things and appreciating others. Being able to prioritize. Being positive! But also firm and responsible. Your unique skills and experiences, like for me having accounting/office experience somehow has helped lol. Even being good-humored and good-natured because most people don't want to work in an environment where you don't have any fun! :> Healthy mindsets are always welcomed.

Part of me wishes I could tell these things to the me that didn't think I was worth anything, who thought there'd be no way I'd be accepted by any employers or colleagues, thought I'd be a failure for sure. But honestly even if I heard it back then I know I wouldn't believe it XDD What is the point of this post? I don't know.
IF ANYONE'S READING THIS! Be confident in yourself 8D Stay cool, work hard, and you got this. Nobody can bring exactly what you can bring!

You could just go up and order a clam chowder in a sourdough breadbowl without paying! I had two churros and cotton candy! No turkey legs though sadface.
