ClosetCon 2k20

It's crazy to think that if there weren't a pandemic right now, I would've just been in LA for Anime Expo for our yearly con adventure—sharing a hotel room with way too many friends but making a ton of memories and inside jokes, meeting up with youtaite from all over the world, spending time every day making myself look somewhat presentable, sometimes dedicating hours to getting into cosplay, bumbling around this village of all sorts of weeaboos, constantly waiting in lines in the heat, bouncing through town in pursuit of food and dessert, every day an unpredictable adventure and escape from reality with high social pressure but...it's just too fun so we can't stop going back LOL. Now I don't know when I'll ever get to hang out with my friends in person again, I rarely leave my room, I kind of revel in not having to make myself look presentable or talk to anyone or go anywhere, hehhhh. (How do I still feel exhausted even without having to do these things? I can no longer imagine having to do those things.)

I revisited my cosplay photos from last AX in reminiscence and it reminded me that I've actually done a few closet cosplays at home this year that I kept meaning to put up on here too yet never remembered to..... Throwin' it back a little! 💫

Back in February (freakin jeez, that was like 3 years ago) I had my hair cut a bit too short for my liking but yanovi was like, "Now you can cosplay Sorane from OshiBudo!" soooooo.... I tried to kind of. Actually my hair wasn't even at all short enough but whatevs. Speaking of OshiBudo, I LOVED THAT ANIME SO MUCH—it's super relatable if you're an idol fan (though there's some toxic fan culture stuff too), it's absolutely comedy gold and the girls are so awkward gay and sweet. I rewatched almost every episode. 🥺

Fast forward to April after the world had changed forever... Since the start of shelter in place, my 6-person company has held a contest with weekly themes for our Zoom meetings. (Because I don't usually have many meetings, I only FINALLY won for the first time last week LOL. THE FIRST TIME. SINCE IT STARTED IN MARCH)

One particular week, the theme was "Best Costume" so I went all out. It was a headache trying to think of what I could possibly dress up as that was Western mainstream enough for my coworkers to know of and that I also genuinely liked... And limited to the fact that I only owned purple, green, and blue wigs.... AND GENIUS STRUCK ME. IT'S ABSOLUTELY THE BEST, MOST CURSED IDEA I COULD EVER HAVE COME UP WITH. PROUD, I AM.

Closet Yoda cosplay, I present ✨✨✨

(I really did just happen to have a fake lightsaber lying around from a business trip 3 years ago—and I didn't watch the movies until 6 months ago oops)

Speaking of famous things I never engaged with until recently...... I didn't grow up with Final Fantasy at all but I watched all of the cutscenes from the FF7 Remake AND IT'S SO SO SO SO GOOD. 😭 I do honestly think I wouldn't have enjoyed or appreciated FF7 when I was younger but now I find it extremely fascinating and captivating and I just want to keep watching analyses of it. (Same deal with Star Wars actually haha it's better that I got into it now than before.)

ANYWAY TIFA LOCKHART IS A BADASS QUEEN, VERY GOALS, NOBODY COULD EVER MATCH UP. She's not only physically strong and brave but also acts as Cloud's emotional pillar and is the person that saves him in his identity/existential crisis. I LOVE HERRR. 😭 We found out that her birthday, May 3rd, is one day after mine—meaning technically if you consider US-Japan timezones our birthdays overlap!!—so I did a closet cos for her special day ehehehe. One day I hope I'll have those abs for real.
