League of Legends' "idol group" made a comeback with the pre-release single The Baddest (preceding their full EP which will probably be released in November so idk why they put this one out so early dfjksk) and it's another banger. ๐ Two of the singers are different from two years ago but I'm sooooo glad that Soyeon and Miyeon—both of (G)I-DLE—returned for their roles. ๐ฅบ
I'm a huge fan of Soyeon's raps and this verse really surprised me! Firstly it's a much darker tone than what I've typically heard her use and it goes hard in a different way than usual—instead of being sort of quippy it's a more constant, low intensity with no rush to go anywhere. It's totally opposite from her flow from True Damage which was all about speed and bounce. And this one is so long; I kept being surprised when it kept going but it's cool that she gets so much spotlight. ^^
I have a lot of fun learning her raps (just started this thread for all of the oneshot covers I've done of Soyeon verses) but WOWEE this one was more challenging than I expected... It turned out to be such a test of stamina, breath control, and even memory haha. The flow is straightforward but the pure length makes it hard. And then keeping up with the kind of darker timbre while adding my own flair but also figuring out how to do this in a one shot without pushing my voice unhealthily so that I could get through full takes intact and also do multiple takes to choose from.. Sustenance has always been an issue for me because I don't use good vocal techniques but somehow??? after filling up my phone's voice memos with practice over 3 days, I'm pleasantly surprised I sorta figured out how to do this one without having a sore throat at the end of filming. ;u;

Aaah so cute so cute I die... chiisana and I have been talking for a long time about putting together a revival Mermaid Melody collab and I've been enjoying relistening to a lot of the songs in the past few months... But now this was the catalyst for me to start rewatching the 2003 anime from the beginning and omg I'm having so much fun with it since I don't remember anything about the plot yet I already love all the characters and can sing along to all the songs!
It's crazy to think that if there weren't a pandemic right now, I would've just been in LA for Anime Expo for our yearly con adventure—sharing a hotel room with way too many friends but making a ton of memories and inside jokes, meeting up with youtaite from all over the world, spending time every day making myself look somewhat presentable, sometimes dedicating hours to getting into cosplay, bumbling around this village of all sorts of weeaboos, constantly waiting in lines in the heat, bouncing through town in pursuit of food and dessert, every day an unpredictable adventure and escape from reality with high social pressure but...it's just too fun so we can't stop going back LOL. Now I don't know when I'll ever get to hang out with my friends in person again, I rarely leave my room, I kind of revel in not having to make myself look presentable or talk to anyone or go anywhere, hehhhh. (How do I still feel exhausted even without having to do these things? I can no longer imagine having to do those things.)
I revisited my cosplay photos from last AX in reminiscence and it reminded me that I've actually done a few closet cosplays at home this year that I kept meaning to put up on here too yet never remembered to..... Throwin' it back a little! ๐ซ

I logged my entire costume-making progress in this post in which I exposed my method of 0% technique and 100% guessing as I went along lmao. Mess. What the fuck. This costume is genuinely ugly up close. The joke is that it's okay because her playstyle is generally long ranged anyway--

I'm not very experienced with photoshoots but my friend Muramatsuri Photos (no link requested) is probably one of the few people I'm less uncomfortable with having photograph me, and I'm super grateful for him going above and beyond for what I'd initially expected to be quick and simple—all I wanted was at least one presentable full-body picture so that I could show people my completed cosplay. ^^;;; It turned into going to multiple locations (which he scouted), having simple lighting which was still more than I'd ever been photographed with, assistants to make me look slightly less awkward than I felt, and his time generously put into editing the pictures!
As for the assistants, quite literally I had a rock star and an idol choosing all the poses for me, making sure my wig and costume were under control, and giving substantial feedback LOL. Fome aka Sean(from PHOENIX ASH) and Eri from the LA-based idol duo PhEri were seriously amazing and without their direction, I would have just helplessly flopped around the entire time T^T.......
A big lesson that I learned on that day is that apparently a cosplayer/model is not properly posing unless their body is in pain.... Jeebus god I was in pain. My body felt contorted at times, I was practically holding a squat sometimes, my arms were doing things that they shouldn't naturally be doing lolol. But thanks to everyone's help the photos actually turned out really cool and I'm proud of them, so keep on scrolling if you'd like to check em out below!

Two and a half years after Mikumo, I'm gonna be very shoddily hacking together working on another cosplay up until Summer 2019! It's K/DA Kai'Sa from League of Legends' "k-pop group" and I gave all my reasons here for why she's personally my favorite member ahah.
Follow along as I have no heckin' idea what I'm doing.
With much delay (my procrastination), I'd like to share the pictures I got to take at AX this year during a mini shoot with friends~ I'm thankful that they invited me to shoot since I basically never do them, and thus I only have phone pictures and selfies to show for most of my cosplays haha. And ofc it was fun working with them ^^ This is the Mikumo costume that I sewed last year! This year, I broke combo and didn't have the time or inspiration to make a new costume. :/ Hopefully next year, the pieces will fit right.
SO...... last year I started this post in an effort to update my blog more often and be transparent about my cosplay-making process—but of course I ditched, totally forgot about, and then procrastinated on it for a year. :'DDDDDDDD
Now to bring you the very unexciting conclusion to my Mikumo Guynemer (Macross Delta / "Bokura no Senjou" and "Fukakuteisei COSMIC MOVEMENT" outfit) cosplay journey.
The total of my spending from my progress post, including the wig, was $63.31... Crud, that's more than I hoped. D: And now that I've bought my own pair of boots (I'd borrowed Sophie's before but I plan to wear mine casually too), my total spending is $93.30. orzzzz
And then there's all the time and laborious nights I spent... I even worked out because I wanted flat abs.......
My cosplay turned out okay'ish though I think! It debuted at last year's Anime Expo and in most pictures, you can't tell what a ragtag bullshit mess sewing job I did!!!

Anyway, here is how the cosplay turned out! Kudos to Myst and Himuro for helping me finish it on the rough final night when I couldn't stay awake, to Sophie for lending me boots, and to Fome for lending me his microphone and taking all the non-selfie pictures ^^
Whether I'm being extra blog-active to try to compensate for feeling like I don't spend adequate time online (no wifi), or to make up for STILL not having written about the cosplay I made last year--certainly I'm trying to compensate for something. And I don't mind!! :'D I've said for a while that I would blog more often if only there were more time in the day. Or I guess if I didn't have wifi and don't feel like sleeping at 3:51 AM despite full time work.
Anyway, this year I wanted to record my progress and expenses for the cosplay I'm making for AX. :> I've actually never kept track of my cosplay spending which......was irresponsibly bad and also good because seeing numbers would have just stressed me out. Cosplay is hella expensive.. This year I realize how much those amounts from the past few years must have added up, so I'm curious how much I'll spend now being more careful.

- cut out the fabric/pattern for the vest, added interfacing... only partially hemmed. not put together at all. NEED TO ADD WHITE STRIPES TO BLUE FABRIC..
- pleated all three layers of the skirt yay! have not attached them together yet.

Despite having started working on them, we ended up buying the cosplay so that we could spend our time working on other costumes not so readily purchasable. We dyed our shoelaces though :D!
A cute little memory from that day: when we were crossing the street together, these two girls as they were passing us suddenly went, "3.. 2.. 1... HAI HAI! SUSUME! MADA MADA LET'S GO!" and jumped in the air.
And it took a bit for it to register to us what happened. "Wait........ that was at us, right?" "They were singing Wonderful Rush so .. that was probably... to us....." (we look back and they have already disappeared into the crowd)
Also we made these poses whenever people asked us for pictures. We practiced them for like 2 minutes in the hotel before leaving when we realized we didn't know how to pose..... Sooo awkward tbh.. We just tried to follow the picture..

Guess who yolo decided yesterday that she's going to build the guitar along with her Chuchu costume even though she's never done a big prop like this before—
It started last Wednesday when I went in to volunteer at the cable TV studio that I interned for this semester (they're also a community media center so after you get the right training, members can volunteer on productions).
I was operating one of the cameras on a TV studio taping........... and I FAINTED. LMAO. IT WAS HORRIFYING. I FELT SO BAD. But I also kind of laugh because of how pathetic I am and how horrible my luck is, and it's just so me to faint in the absolute worst case scenario.
The irony is that the show was about fitness and health LOL. So we've got all these trainers and health gurus talking on camera..... And aside from a weird headache I woke up with, I felt pretty fine? In fact, it all happened in the span of 5 minutes. Around the time the director called for 15 minutes to the end of the segment, I started feeling a bit dizzy and like I wanted to eat something, especially something sweet. (We suspect it was a blood sugar/pressure issue.) By the time the director called 10 minutes, I was like, "AGH OKAY I JUST HAVE TO ENDURE 10 MORE MINUTES THEN I CAN SIT DOWN." But then my vision started going blurry... I was seeing static and colors that weren't there, notably red... Everything started sounding bassy and I couldn't tell what anyone was saying anymore; it was a bit like the sensation of being hopelessly drunk. And then I was down :'D The floor director saw me losing control and caught me, and I faintly remember the people on set freaking out. The best part is that the director was shouting, "WHAT HAPPENED TO CAMERA 2!!" through my headset, so the first thing I did when I regained consciousness seconds later was get up and fix my camera framing LMAO. Still, I feel horrible for interrupting the taping and for worrying people sigh. That wasn't a good day at all.
Then Thursday was the biannual student short film festival at my school! ^^ I won an award a year ago, but this time wasn't able to participate in any of the films shown. Afterwards, I got to have fun hanging out and drinking with schoolmates for the first time! .......And last time as a student..... ;^; (Still yay! I guess better late than never!)
On Friday, I graduated from university. Q_______Q
Since I don't care much for festivities and conventions, I didn't buy a cap and gown because it's fucking expensive. $60 for some fabric I'm only going to wear for 4 hours and then never again, to take some low quality pictures for people I don't have much reason to be grateful to, to pretend to celebrate something I never got to feel like was a great or honored achievement anyway. Graduation wasn't a good day. Actually, I was pretty depressed and angry. Meh.
As it was our department-only convocation, every graduate had the chance to make a speech; and most of them went on long sentimental rambles that likely exceeded their 30 second limits. ..True to my nature—having been the only valedictorian in high school among 7 that did not give a speech—I made the shortest and least emotional "speech" out of the ~70 students that showed up LOL....
In the end, my parents borrowed at the last minute the gown of a family friend, that I slipped on afterwards to take some pictures haha.
On the bright side, Chiisana (who came back for the weekend) did my hair and make-up!

On Saturday, I went to Fanime! Got to meet up with and hang out with frieenddsss~ We were at a milkshake place when they suddenly sprung THIS FREAKING VIDEO ("If You Can Dream" by GemiNYA) on me and I looooooost my shit LOL. That will get its own post though! God, I have a lot of posts to make still.
That night was the BACK-ON concert, which was awesome! They're the rare j-rock band that I actually really like whose music I've bought.. Tbh Chiisana and I weren't planning on getting Fanime badges until we found out BACK-ON was the musical guest xDD But yeah, they were great! Unfortunately I don't know how to appreciate instrumentalists but they seemed solid, and the vocalists had a crazy amount of endurance and energy. My favorite songs by them are: Nibun no Ichi and Departure, which were a ton of fun live!
We also went to Fanime on Sunday, but without badges.
I cosplayed UH.... my makeshift "maid version" of Kido Tsubomi from Kagerou Project (anime Mekakucity Actors) which basically was an excuse to wear pants and sneakers under a maid dress.

With Myst, who bravely sang a solo during the Maid Cafe performances! It was great because we went over to congratulate Myst on the performance and took a pic together, and then people started showing up that wanted to take pictures with the both of us HAHA.
That night, I went over to sleep over at Myst's house where Kanso/Sean was staying for the weekend.
I've made countless posts on here and tumblr in which I'm bullying Kanso because he cosplays Kano Shuuya who Kido kind of.. violently abuses because he's a mischievous idiot. AND FINALLY Kanso gets his revenge this year as he was Policeman Rin and I a weeaboo civilian :c

Tuesday, I tried some "deep fried pho" (surprisingly yummy~) and went to the mall with some of the schoolmates I drank with after the film fest. ^^ Yaaay friends!!!! Better late than never yay!! Afterwards, I joined the Valkyrie Kiss (Dibur's band) members, Yano, and Fome for VK's bassist Tik's birthday.
AND TODAY. I had my first real job interview. OHMYGAH. See, I've only ever had one interview before and it was the internship one. One of my coolest professors, who's for some reason super generous to me, referred me to a part time position for a creative content company. IT WAS SO NERVE-WRACKING. I'm naturally awkward, but I guess I have no regrets since I did my best! Q^Q YAY I FEEL LIKE SO MUCH IS OFF MY SHOULDERS NOW. I feel reneeewwweeddddd.
YAY I'M GLAD IT'S OVER AND I DID IT.
Finally I can rest a little. Maybe. Idk. I have a lot to catch up on.
Classmates and I had a film shoot for our short film entitled "Cheater." The first night of shooting went til 4 AM, and the second night ended at 6 AM and I got home at 8 AM. hyuuuuuu. lord.
I was in charge of audio so I got to work a $299 Tascam audio recorder that we rented, and was also boom mic operator. The second night, we were short of hands so I also did some lighting/grip work and running extension cables and shit. Got a lot more physical than I expected, but... you know. Group projects teach you that you can't trust everyone to help or show up just because they say they will.

I keep having things I want to blog about, and then I don't have time and the moment passes by with a trace of regret. So I'll go right into it while everything's still fresh!! even though it's 3 AM and I'm fucking exhausted as fuckturded fuck aaaa.
Lately I've been really busy (friends, work, mixing, still editing the dumb video, exercise) which is maybe a good thing?? I start school again next Monday and we're ending summer vacation with a bang!
Today, my NYA friends and I attended a small anime/Japanese cultural convention here in NorCal. Our very own Karu did a dance/singing performance actually and was fantastic. ;v; It wasn't exactly an eventful con, but what really made the day for me was probably the fact that Y and I did 'casual' cosplays of Love Live. A bunch of friends and I have been planning to do a Love Live cosplay group (aiming for AX2015 and we already have fabric picked out ohoho), but Y and I are the only ones who have our wigs so decided to put them to use. xD
Following suit to how I grew an attachment to cosplaying Kagepro, we were able to meet a lot of friendly and cute fellow Love Live cosplayers and got to take pictures with them, which makes the entire experience all the more enjoyable and cosplaying worth it. We even got to do a somewhat informal but still fun photoshoot! *A* First time working with a cosplay photographer!

Since I already had similar clothes, I decided to cosplay one of Umi's SR cards from the rhythm game mobile app School Idol Festival (which btw gets a bit addicting but it's sooo goood ffff). Except I still fail with circle lenses so as usual, I had to tip between Glasses ver. and BlindAsHell ver. cosplays.
Y made a really lovely and suiting Nozomi! *^* And she did my makeup!!! Bless her for saving my incompetent, lazy soul. (Pinned up bangs here because driving heheh)
Hi, blog! It's really been a while since I've sat down to post here without it having been... that one hour I waited in the salon for my haircut LOOOOL.
Unfortunately, I broke tradition and didn't vlog this year's AX trip D: but I don't regret it. This year was so busy and hectic and other times uneventful or frustrating. As a bonus, I was one of the hotel room holders so I took it upon myself to try to make sure I was on top of everything and could take responsibility for everything so at all times, I had something or another on my mind ;; AND there was cosplay... If I had decided to vlog, I would've been too overwhelmed and it would've been forced, holding out a camera and talking to it. I can't say that the entire trip was a pleasant time. To be entirely honest, I feel guilty that there were times I could no longer hold it in so there was once I had a mini breakdown and a few times I just withdrew into a little sulky, irritable ball in a corner. So in some senses, I feel like I failed as the leader figure pillar I was trying to be and I'm sorry to my hotelmates for that. But all that aside!! Regardless of whether things were positive or negative, it was all an interesting experience we learned from.
Ultimately, I did have a great time and I'm so glad that I go to AX every year. It's not really about the con, but about the people and experience. Sharing a hotel room with ~10 people (we had 2 rooms and 16 people total, but the distribution every night turned out a bit uneven so my room was often jam packed haha) and making new friends and becoming a family is an incredible adventure. There's so much warmth and mirth. <3 Anywhere you go, you have friends who're like family who really care about you and readily give hugs and support. That's really how I'll always remember our hotel room family this year. ^^
I don't have that many pictures because of being busy or otherwise just hanging out with friends casually (which doesn't make for an exciting photo or vlog subject).

I'm embarrassed to say the least about wearing this costume, buuuuuut...... since I worked my ass off on it, I should post the results at least here, right? This is actually my first time ever making a cosplay. ;_; All of the Kido stuff Yano, Myst, and Chiisana made for me because we were rushing the last weekend before AX and I didn't know how to use a sewing machine. So doing this Ruka cosplay was my first time using a sewing machine, first time using craft foam, spray paint, acrylic paint....... Sadly I couldn't get my green circle lenses in my eyes, but there's always next year! I still have tons of things to fix now that I know better. :>
I started in January, worked like a snail during the school semester, and then basically worked on this day and night once school let out haha. And in between, I'd been obsessively doing ab workouts, though to very little fruition. Anyway, this is how the cosplay turned out!
Some of us had been talking about having a Puzzle & Dragons cosplay group since AX last year, and then coincidentally they announced not too long ago that they'd be having a booth this year! So we actually received some goodies from the staff and got to take a lot of pictures in front of the booth haha.

I'm super tired from...everything....like all the walking we had to do, jumping and screaming through the concert, barely sleeping, the stress that some of us went through, socializing and just being around people in general..... So I'm going to hermit and sleep for the next few days (other than going to work) until my next meetup with Y to work on cosplay.. OTL........ I can't believe Anime Expo is in a month. Fuck. I'm so fucked; my cosplay is nowhere near complete despite how long I've been working on it.
Under the cut are.... mostly my Kido selfies because getting into cosplay and putting on makeup by myself (!!!!) is so much effort....... HAHAHA. (I suck. This is a scarily narcissistic-looking post.) Unfortunately, I didn't get many pictures this weekend because it was a lot of moving around and being busy. :c Plus the few pictures I got I'm not sure if I can post without permission.

As my first actual cosplay attempt, I attended AX 2013 as Kido Tsubomi of Jin's Kagerou Project. Sorry this is really just a picspam HAHAHA. You're probably 1000% done with seeing my face. BUT HEY I HAVE A NEW CAMERA AND I'm sure as fuck gonna make use of it to make it worth every penny. I'll probably have even more pictures in the next few days hehe.

I plan to cosplay Kido Tsubomi from Kagerou Project again this Saturday, and it's been a while since Anime Expo so I wanted to practice a bit~ I'm not yet used to putting on wigs... and I'm pretty much incapable of putting on make-up for myself. I've always had trouble with eye make-up especially because I have terribly sensitive eyes. But I tried!! Put on a bit of eyeliner, tried drawing a wing, and wore a bit of foundation. Q^Q)/ Wow such progress.
Wow I'm sorry there's just been so much of my face lately. But for those who aren't sick of seeing me yet, here's a useless selca dump as I was playing around with my purple wig that arrived today LOL.
I'm going to be cosplaying Water Courier Ruka from Puzzles & Dragons for next year's Anime Expo--though hopefully the costume will be done before then. :>
