I sang a quick thing!!!! Of "For Fruits Basket" which was the first cover I ever posted to youtube back in 2006—and I've covered it a few times since then but not in many years. :')

This came about for these reasons...

1.) Dear friendo Velvet gifted me this super beautiful art by opp_grr for my birthday and I've been looking for a good excuse to post or use it somehow 😭 Feels weird to post it as a standalone tweet since I'm not the artist, idk? I'm really glad it can finally be seen by people!!! So pretty; I'm not worthy!!!!

2.) #WailingWednesday is a new trend that just started last week! It's fun to hear more of others' singing and also learn about them through their choices and read their stories—for example, this week's prompt is "What is a song that inspired you to sing, either when you started singing, or when you were in a slump?" and I've discovered a few people who sang Mermaid Melody!!

The goal for #WailingWednesday is for everyone to show their singing without mixing/editing—that's why it doesn't sound as polished as a proper cover—a lot of people did one shots but I had to do two separate takes for the first half and second half of the song because breathing is HARD.... 😭

3.) I love me my throwback songs and had also considered Mermaid Melody, Cardcaptor Sakura, Tsubasa Chronicle....... But decided on this in the end because the currently airing Fruits Basket reboot anime owns my soul.. q__q All my feels every week 💞💘💕💓

I love this anime so much and am grateful that it's been airing every spring/summer for the past 3 years~ (happy sigh ;u;) Kind of sad that there's only three episodes left and then no more new Fruits Basket again forever. This show has given us so much sweetness, pain, tears, laughs, comedic excellence, soft moments, fucked up shit, more pain, so much pain... it broke our hearts... it warmed our hearts...... I love that even though the original anime is so iconic, they still gave it the time and thoughtful attention in telling the full story of the manga through 3 new seasons—and I will probably hold both shows close to my chest always. :')

This last one is maybe spoilers from the latest episode but I'M 😭 DEAD !!!

League of Legends' "idol group" made a comeback with the pre-release single The Baddest (preceding their full EP which will probably be released in November so idk why they put this one out so early dfjksk) and it's another banger. 💜 Two of the singers are different from two years ago but I'm sooooo glad that Soyeon and Miyeon—both of (G)I-DLE—returned for their roles. 🥺

I'm a huge fan of Soyeon's raps and this verse really surprised me! Firstly it's a much darker tone than what I've typically heard her use and it goes hard in a different way than usual—instead of being sort of quippy it's a more constant, low intensity with no rush to go anywhere. It's totally opposite from her flow from True Damage which was all about speed and bounce. And this one is so long; I kept being surprised when it kept going but it's cool that she gets so much spotlight. ^^

I have a lot of fun learning her raps (just started this thread for all of the oneshot covers I've done of Soyeon verses) but WOWEE this one was more challenging than I expected... It turned out to be such a test of stamina, breath control, and even memory haha. The flow is straightforward but the pure length makes it hard. And then keeping up with the kind of darker timbre while adding my own flair but also figuring out how to do this in a one shot without pushing my voice unhealthily so that I could get through full takes intact and also do multiple takes to choose from.. Sustenance has always been an issue for me because I don't use good vocal techniques but somehow??? after filling up my phone's voice memos with practice over 3 days, I'm pleasantly surprised I sorta figured out how to do this one without having a sore throat at the end of filming. ;u;

Aaah so cute so cute I die... chiisana and I have been talking for a long time about putting together a revival Mermaid Melody collab and I've been enjoying relistening to a lot of the songs in the past few months... But now this was the catalyst for me to start rewatching the 2003 anime from the beginning and omg I'm having so much fun with it since I don't remember anything about the plot yet I already love all the characters and can sing along to all the songs!

AAAAAAH HI I've been very occupied lately with working on the coverthatI'muploadinglatertoday but before that goes up, I wanted to take a moment at this absolutely incomprehensible hour of 3 AM to give this collab its own post because it deserves the world!!!! 😭💕 A whole dream come true!!!

I've mentioned the group CYPHER here a few times before—while I was participating in the same chorus battle as them... standing outside the restaurant window during their group dinner at AX... (LOL OKAY FOR CLARITY I was also actually invited but had to pass it up for our Gemini group dinner 💗)—I've just genuinely been such a huge fan of them since they first formed for ACB1.

The six vocalist boys have this magical chemistry and it's amazing that they each have different personalities to their voices but they all come together into a charming blend, and they sing with so much emotion that you can't not be drawn into their world. (Some emotional favorites: W, Our Sky) And then they always have the best visuals sdjkfslkd just out of this world... Their artists do gorgeous work and Howl is an animation visionary... And for ACB2, they came back and did self-written original songs for all three rounds which is just insane and they're fucking legit amazing songs 😭 Truly I admire every single one of them to the moon and back.... An extremely skilled collective of people who are also really cool?! I'm definitely privileged to be friends with all of them and to be able to hang out with them in person. They are really such a good group. The pinnacle of both quality and heart. I can't fangirl enough over them, sorry. #HailCypher

yaaaaaaaa sooooooooooooooooooo I think it was back in October or something when I was in a car with Fome and Chiisana, and Fome suddenly asks us if we'd sing in SCB3 with Cypher lol. I was like WHAT I CAN'T DO THAT. WHAT???? NO.... I DON'T KNOW...... and there's just been a whole lot of self-esteem attacking since and working on my singing and my Japanese pronunciation, and I'm honestly still personally not satisfied with how I sound in our entry but I'm extremely glad that I joined them in the end. ;;;; It was super well received and so far no complaints about me!

It's been a lot of fun!! Everyone is lovely and hilarious and our entry is freaking.....my favorite thing ever.............I just love it, I love it, I love it so much, I love it waaaaay too much. T___T 💞 The song is wonderful; the visuals are beautiful and bright and fun and creative and engaging and impeccably polished and also my taste in colors djkdfjs; it's a sweet spectrum of voices full of personality and all masterfully mixed together into a massive dosage of serotonin.

Again / Fruits Basket 2019 OP Cover

Happy to be able to say: I have a new solo cover!!! ✨✨✨

So twelve and a half years ago, I uploaded my very bad "fandub" of For Fruits Basket to youtube—my first cover that I put online. But like. Recorded in Windows Movie Maker with a $20 microphone. Mispronouncing everything and singing the wrong words.

Fast forward to when the 2019 reboot of the Fruits Basket anime was announced, I knew I definitely had to cover the opening theme—no matter what kind of song it was, no matter if I actually sounded good on it or not LOL! Hit up my friends' art and instrumental commissions, immediately started recording when the song came out, and I was set on uploading in April because I have other projects to worry about.... Until I got sick for 2 weeks, was on biz trip for 1 week, never fully recovered, had to focus on other things. :c Singing this was a struggle! In any case, I'm just very glad that I finally finished it; this is a super meaningful project. 💖

"Shooting Star" Cover ~Sneak Preview~

Hello hello!! So I finished working on a solo cover on Saturday and uploaded it to youtube but encountered something for the first time—the video didn't become unblocked as soon as I submitted a copyright dispute and it says, "Viewing restrictions caused by this claim are still in place for the time being," which was new to me and some friends. ^^;; When I uploaded a snippet as a copyright test in March of last year, they approved my dispute so fingers crossed that their policy hasn't changed!

In the meantime since I don't know when (or if, heh--) I'll be able to publish the cover, I thought I'd post a sneak preview here for the couple of people that regularly visit my blog. ♥ Kind of like a secret patreon reward lolol except you've paid me with your interest and support and that truly means a lot! It's really an honor that you come and read what I have to say, especially in an era wherein blogging has died and following social media feeds is much easier, yet you go out of your way to let me feel like I have a voice and a space to share things. ;^; Usually I don't very much address my "readers" since I don't like setting up expectations that I'll have readers, but I know a few of you have been out here lately and I immensely appreciate you~~ <3

The song that I covered is a b-side track from JUNNA's first mini-album called "Shooting Star" ! It's mostly in English with a bit of Japanese sprinkled in, which I found interesting along with the fact that there was such an easygoing acoustic song amongst JUNNA's intense discography ;u; If you don't know who JUNNA is, she's a brilliant little rising star with an amazing and surprisingly deep voice. At the age of 14, she was the singing voice of Mikumo (whom I cosplayed) in Walkure / Macross Delta. I had the privilege of seeing her perform live at AX two years ago and she just..blew me away.... and hilariously could not come out for the final bow at the end of the show because it was past her curfew LOL.

For the art, I commissioned soemei whose work I really love! It's tender and flows beautifully, and her coloring style is lovely as hell. It's so nice, what the fuck--

We did it ;_;!!!! Gemini and our amazing support team made it all the way to the completion of LSO's final round—and it's been an undeniably arduous but rewarding journey! Out of all three of our entries, I must say that I'm especially proud of this one, which is fitting for a finale. <3 Gemini honestly thinks that this is the greatest thing we've ever done. ;u; Chienu's art is always always gorgeous (I don't know how she does it), our animators really put in their all and created some of their best animation work (oh my god this video is to die for; it's so pretty, thoughtful, and feels complete), and I really think.... this is the best mix ever done by both Gemini as a collective and me as an individual. So I'm going to assume that by now, you've hopefully watched our video ;v; (please?)

The ending was a surprise we kept from our support team until the final video was uploaded. XD It worked out well because I was helping the animators render and edited together the full video, so I could sneak it in without anyone knowing hehehehehe. It's unfortunate really that we can't give them more of a spotlight when they're actually the heroes here—without them, we couldn't have made something this beautiful and so complete. They're really the driving force of our success, just like in our fictional story. <3

I have basically been in a state of shock for 3 days because......... not only did Gemini pass into round 3 of LSO among 13 groups out of 36........ we somehow came in 2nd place. It just blows my mind. It's like..... you have all of these super talented people, a lot of whom are pretty well known, who make crazy awesome untouchable things...and somehow my skills were deemed comparable to theirs and can compete with theirs? ;A; Because of the roles I played in the mix, I couldn't help but feel a lot of pressure and responsibility for the impression of our entry as a whole ;w; There's such a big difference between a polished mix and less than polished mix, and a polished sound was something I always struggled with so I was kinda worried I wouldn't do the vocals justice. And of course, I'm really happy my teammates' hard work got recognized and all of the last minute masoing they were forced to do because of circumstances paid off. ;A; This is so insane!!!! 2nd place!

So we've already been hard back at work for our 3rd round entry, even before results were announced because we wanted to have viable song options and story and art ideas at our arsenal in the case that we pass, so that everyone will have more working time.. @_@ So busyyyy and I'm taking forever to recover from my cold uhuuu



On a very late note, I wanted to share this adorable art Hinoe drew of me~ It was a commission for her AX funds (she was in my hotel room so she's fam <3) and I basically told her she could draw anything, and she came up with this super cute design! I find it so mesmerizingly precious/// It's perf.

I don't think I've ever been portrayed as this sunny before, and tbh I almost feel like I don't deserve it...;; I'm having a hard time staying positive and I get pretty stressed and unmotivated.. But I would like to become a brighter, cheerier, more optimistic person like this drawing! Sometimes I think I'm making really good progress and then I hit slumps ><)9 fightinggg

My friends are so maso wtf. I really didn't expect to receive Ice Cream Cake, but I expected even LESS that that present was partially to throw me off the trail of ANOTHER epic birthday present?!

So a few months ago, Erin asked me to fill in for her If You Can Dream collab because her Ariel "dropped out last minute." Of course I said yes because I love Erin (she's the sweetest), I'm still obsessed with Disney Princesses (I own the DVD that has the MV for the song), I love the song (attempted a collab of it in 2007), and Ariel is my absolute FAAAAAAVORITE. *^*

Fast forward to Fanime last weekend.

Everyone sounds so goooood!! Really, not a single weak spot imo. Mix and video are flawfree; I love the unexpected blend in vocals and the touch of the silhouettes. So many of my friends came together for this—I can't believe it. And it's NYA's first completed collab too! I love it to bitssssss *u* I've had it on repeat since last week~ It's such an honor to receive something so lovely ;A;

I'm gonna shamelessly point out that my most repeated part tbh is the part near the end with Chris/Hakuro's solo followed by Jeffrey's because KRISTOFF x SVEN OTP (the! adorable! art! doesn't! help!) and they're both the precious young boy characters of NYA and Gemini respectively who are blossoming into young men before our eyes QuQ;;.... Pets them both.... And AAAAgh they sound so good I squeal. I've never heard Chris belt or falsetto like that before and it sounds wonderful/// and then rings in Jeffrey's heavenly voice that I may or may not have once had a slight voice crush over before...... I'm just gonna go hide in a corner now so please treat yourself to this beautiful piece!

It's been soooooo long since the last time a project I was heavily involved in has been completed and released. Q^Q

It was my bestestestest friend Chiisana's birthday yesterday, and this one has been uploaded for that occasion!

It's Parefura (Palette's Fragment) and Gemini's first collab, dedicated to Chiisana and Ryan who are important members of both groups.

THE VOCALS ARE KIND OF 2 YEARS OLD..... and I mixed it mostly 2 years ago and kept going back to revise it over the course of 2 years and I'm still disappointed by my mixing............ but!!!! still a lovely collab I'm glad to be a part of. I'm very thankful for our artist Reiru and animator Curry who worked really hard for us!
